4th Class

Maths Week

Mr O'Connor's 4th class started off Maths week 2023 by playing Battle Chess against one another to improve our problem-solving and strategic thinking, followed by playing against an AI,  which we managed to check-mate after a great collaborative effort. On Tuesday, we completed a Maths Trail around the school which was won by Paudie, Ronan, Charlie and Adam. On Wednesday, we used tessellating shapes to draw and colour our own patterns. Many of the boys' highlight came on Thursday, where we put our culinary skills to the test and baked over 30 tasty scones. Finally, we finished Maths week with a Decathlon; ten events in the school yard, including skipping, free throws and keepy-uppies, where the boys had to complete as many reps as possible. Overall, we had a great week using Maths in fun, practical and engaging ways and we can't wait for next year already!

World Book Day

We were very lucky and got to meet Irish children's author Caitriona Sweeney, author of 'A Galway Fairytale'. She is both an author and illustrator. She read her story to us and then she showed us how to illustrate characters in a story. We really enjoyed it!
